Life... with only four letters in the alphabets, speaks volumes to many different individuals. As for us, life is what God has given and what we make out of it in obedience to Jesus Christ! So live life to the full... life is indeed exciting!

The Da Vinci Code

I have not watched the movie yet as it will only be shown in Miri next week. But it is a movie filled with half truths, and this makes it difficult for a lot of people to separate truth from fiction!

Someone sent this link to us. It is a cute response to the Da Vinci Code. But it is only in Singlish or Hokkien.

Enjoy, by clicking the link below!

A good book to read to know the truth from fiction is entitled "The Da Vinci Code : A Quest for answers" by Josh McDowell. It's an excellent deconstruction of the book and the movie.

Watched the movie already. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be in a sense that one I'm still a christian and I haven't lost my faith ^_^. 2 it's really sad on how they potray christian are suppose to be. And not to mention how the mock Jesus.. There were a few disturbing scenes though on how your sins will be forgiven.. -_-"

Regarding about the picture of the last supper to see if it's Mary or John.. Found out that it's actually John. Not only it is proven from the Bible, but also from fact that during Da Vinci potrayed John as the youngest among those disciples, so in order to differentiate him between the others, he draw John to be more feminine. And he didn't really ahd the intention of mocking Jesus. Anyway, one should not take it too seriously because it's only Da Vinci's point of view of things.

The good thing about this movie? Well. Let's just say that it is indeed a good chance for us to clear things up for the none believers :) So we sort of indirectly reaching out to them without then knowing it ;)

But it's really sad to see how they mock Jesus.. The verse that came into my mind once I finished watching this movie was taken from Luke 23:34 - Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."

Have a nice week :)

hey.. i watched the movie too. read the book about two years ago. sad to say, quite disappointed with the movie depiction. the plot runs far too quickly given the time constraint and there's no climax. tom hanks was a wrong cast in my opinion. the character he took on looks nothing like what i imagined he would be. anyhow, i'd say one of the best things that kept the movie from being just another "harry potter" is tom hank's good acting. :)

yes, a lot of debate going on about the book. i doubt christians with strong faith will be swayed anyhow. it's the non-believers that are in trouble. i'm not christian, but to me it's just a good story, interesting read.

he is a great storyteller really. and the codes are exciting to break :)
try dan brown's non-controversial books:
deception point and digital fortress :)

PW,
It's true that most of these movies mock our Lord Jesus Christ. Just signs of the end times really.

Helen,
Have not read any Dan Brown's books yet... maybe one day when my hands are not so full with the kids! ;)

Further to the Josh MacDowell book recommended by Andy (which is a great book), there's also an easier online option: leestrobel.com. Lee Strobel is the author of Case for Faith, etc and he used to be a lawyer and chief legal editor of one of America's leading tabloids. Used to be an atheist but became a Christian during his pursuit to disprove the gospel. In his website, he manages to get heaps of sponsors to pay for interviews (which clips you can view online) with many respected historians, theologians and relevant experts (both Christian and non-Chrsitian) who explain in detail about how most of the "facts" mentioned by Dan Brown is actually made up.

Also, regarding the issue of whether the feminine looking guy in Da Vinci's painting was Mary/John: it is a well known fact among the artistic society and experts that every artist is allowed an amount of artistic freedom and each period/generaiton in time had its trademark. In Da Vinci's days, it was common for painters to potray younger males as feminine (hence no beard, and all the other signs of pre-puberty). Unfortunately, while this is a non-contentious issue for any expert worth his/her salt, it is extremely deceptive for the average person like you or me.

Also the story highly depends on the "fact" regarding the discovery of the 'dossier secrets' in the 70's which claim to contain evidence that Jesus was married, had a child, and had descendents in the French royal family. This was first made into a documentary by the BBC in the 80's. Interestingly what most people are not aware of is that the BBC soon after discovered that they were hoaxed and in 1990 (if I'm not mistaken) actually released a 2nd documentary overriding the original one and submitted evidence to disprove any theory about these so called documents!

I think the biggest marketing ploy Brown used was to lie and claim that his writings were based on fact. This was probably a pre-meditated move to trigger widespread interest in the book and promote it. Personally I reckon in a couple years time ppl won't even be remembering the book as having any real concrete significance other than being an interesting fictional story and a good read.

Matt,
Thanks for adding this to my blog. This does put the 'truth' of the Da Vinci Code where it belongs... in the FICTION section! Well written Matt! Your writing style is becoming a bit like Phillip Yancey! ;)
